| The NPM-8600 is fully enabled for next generation 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GE) networks with two 10 Gigabit Ethernet and ten 1 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces. The NPM features an integrated 16 core MIPS64 security processor, a high speed network processor, and a Crossbeam designed switch fabric FPGA, enabling true 10GE throughput per NPM. Embedded with a combination of high-speed network and general purpose processors, and connected to the backplane via multiple 3.2 Gbps paths, the NPMs provide hardware accelerated advanced traffic classification, traffic and protocol normalization, load balancing, and more, at wire speed. It uses an intelligent scheduling algorithm based on performance and health indicators communicated by the APMs, such as CPU usage, memory usage, number of flows, traffic counters, etc., to perform efficient and dynamic load balancing. Up to four NPMs per chassis can be configured to be completely independent, or configured for active/active or active/standby redundancy. |
