The CPMs function as the system’s overall control plane, constantly managing and monitoring all modules for failures, and performing the appropriate system level self-healing functionality for in-chassis high reliability. The CPM also features a high speed control plane that can operate at 1Gbps speeds. Each X-Series chassis supports up to two CPMs as a redundant active/standby pair with mirrored hard drives. If a failure of the primary occurs, X-Series management automatically fails over to the redundant/back-up CPM without any impact on data plane traffic.
